The FCA Gateway, present in the majority of 2017 models and onwards, employs a Secure Gateway Module (SGW) akin to a protective "firewall" for the vehicle's networks. To perform functions like clearing DTCs, bi-directional tests, and calibrations, an authenticated tester and diagnostic tools are required to "unlock" the vehicle's SGW.
